I found a wonderful youtube site where there is English translation for the Turkish Series Muhteşem Yüzyıl (Magnificent Century)
I like being able to hear spoken Turkish and be entertained at the same time.

I have watched also. But do you know any Turkish shows or movies with 'Turkish' subtitles. I would like to read along to understand the language better.

Ummm, why would you want a Turkish show, where Turkish is spoken, to have Turkish subtitles?

Perhaps you could find the script and read along. Otherwise, it would have to be something specially prepared for learning, and those are not nearly as entertaining, most the time.

Ok, so my thinking is that if I follow along reading and hearing in Turkish that I will grasp it better. Watching in Turkish and reading in English the text does to coincide because the sentence structure is different. I keep a dictionary close and hit the pause button if it is something I don´t understand.

i totally agree with penguin, watching turkish movies with english subtitles can just make you understand it wrong cause there is many sentences that cannot be ranslated literally. From my experience, the best way to learn turkish is to watch turkish movies without translation, and you will learn much faster, at least i do

I wasn´t suggesting the translations are a direct translation. What I was suggesting is you can listen to spoken Turkish, and read the subtitlles to get an idea of what it is about.

To each their own, if you don´t want to watch it, jusst turn off the subtitles. You do have a choice.

I think there´s a good case for both with subtitles and without subtitles.

It could depend on the person and what level you are at.

I have been watching this Turkish program (http://www.fox.com.tr/Kiraz-Mevsimi/izle). And there are no subtitles. I found this really helped with the Turkish I already knew - I can see better how certain words are used and what are the common expressions (simple ones) and understand better when it is appropriate. Without getting distracted or mislead by subtitles.

But at this point, after watching a lot, I´m not learning too much by it anymore. When there´s a quick conversation I don´t understand, true subtitles probably wouldn´t help. But when someone says just a word or a few words that I don´t know, I wish there were subtitles, then I might learn something. Certain people are good at figuring out stuff like that.

Thank you. Now I can watch it and understand more than just every few words It´s great practice. There are never perfect translations for Turkish to English or any other language to be honest, but it is always nice to see if you are understanding the idea and context of language.that is what the subtitles help with.
